G-Wind Marine in Westmead, Durban is currently building two 39’ and a 48’ aluminium fast cruising yachts. People ask why aluminium, firstly it is much lighter than steel and nearly as strong, it is slightly heavier than polyester, but much stronger and more impact resistance. Aluminium has far less danger of being holed and therefore it is safer at sea. Our yachts have been called the 4X4’s of the ocean, they have hydraulic lifting keels, reducing draft to one meter and with strengthened bottoms are able dry out on a sandy beach. They also have integral tankage forming a double bottom and built in water ballast tanks.

With today’s technology the corrosion worries of the past are over, we have advanced coatings and anodic protection, which leaves us with more time to sail and less time maintaining our yachts.

Aluminium is ideal for custom building, no tooling or costly moulds and plugs, simple take the dxf file of the design and CNC laser cut all the frames in a day, and that includes all the longitudinal stringer slots. All cut with precision down to the last 200 micron. As the yacht is being built, changes can be made without costly mouldings and alterations. The interior is open with no structural bulkheads dictating layout constraints.

Our company can complete the whole project, or just manufacture the aluminium components, hull, deck and foils. We use the latest mig and tig-welding processes to ensure that you get a CE certified yacht that can be sailed and sold throughout the world.
